Advantages of a preloved car

September 24, 2015 at 11:52 AM

Car shopping can be an exciting yet stressful experience as many of us may know, with so many vehicles on offer; it can be difficult to determine which one is right for you.

The first question you need to ask yourself is, Do I want to buy a new or used car?

Advantages of a preloved car

Whilst some of us prefer to own a brand new vehicle, others opt for preloved as they come with many substantial benefits. When some people hear the words 'used car' they imagine a banged-up old vehicle with chipped paint and rusted rims, but for the most part, this is far from the truth.

Great value for money

If you're looking at a lower budget, a used car is definitely the way to go. A relative advantage of used car prices is they allow buyers to purchase a nicer model at a lower rate. Not only are preloved cars cheaper to buy, they are arguably greater value for money due to the high depreciation of new cars.

Avoiding Depreciation

Research shows a percentage of new vehicles can lose up to 40% of their value during their first two years on the road.

Lower Insurance Rates

The rates of car insurance are usually affected by the age of the vehicle, therefore the older the car, the less expensive it is to insure - allowing you to save further costs when purchasing your next car.

Drive at ease

The thought of scratching a brand new car is enough to send shivers up anyone's spine, but with a used car, there is also less mental depreciation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not encouraging you to drive like a lunatic and treat your preloved vehicle like a bumper car, but chances are another small scratch on the paint work won't make as much of an impact as if it were brand new.

Safety

Despite being driven around by previous owners, a large majority of older cars will still come equipped with advanced technology and safety features which ensure the well-being of the driver and its passengers. Provided you get the vehicle checked by professional, there's no reason a second hand car can't be as safe as when it was brand new.

Words of advice

As mentioned above, ensure your preloved car is checked by a professional and has passed all its necessary safety tests for it to be considered safe for the road. You should always arrange to view the vehicle in person and test drive it before you commit to making a purchase. Ask as many questions as you can on the history of the car to ensure you're equipped with all the information you need to know, before you're able to make a decision on whether or not it's the right car for you.
